Phone Gaffs

I love Asterisk, FreePBX, and Open Source, but sometimes things are just so obtuse and you have to dig so deep, it makes you wish for something else.
I love Asterisk, FreePBX, and Open Source, but sometimes things are just so obtuse and you have to dig so deep, it makes you wish for something else.

For instance my demo phone system is pure VOIP and I have had a lot of problem with calling patterns. I want a phone that you pick up and dial just like a POTS. No dialing area codes for in area numbers. I thought that would be pretty simple. Aaargh! The biggest problem sometimes with open source is bad advice. I had Googled my problem many times and tried a number of solutions, but they just didn’t work, until today when I found the correct post on freepbx.org.

You don’t treat trunks and routes the same, even though they both can accept dial patterns ( DOH!) So I had configured a bunch of clock cycles into my trunk that were just wasting time since they don’t work there.

So I wanted this in my trunk:

1aaa+NXXXXXX
Replace aaa with your local Area Code.
and this for my routes:
NXXXXXX

I trashed everything else. Now why was that so hard?
